Mukatsar: Beginning April 1, there will be no liquor vend along national or state highways in Muktsar district as the excise officials have prepared a list of 48 vends for their relocation.
The Excise Department said 48 out of 287 vends of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and Punjab Made Liquor (PML) are to be relocated and some of them would be even closed.
“As per our survey, the relocation will affect business by nearly 50 per cent of these vends,” said department officials.
“We have not yet got any resolution from even a single village panchayat to close the liquor vend. However, as per the Supreme Court order, we are relocating 48 vends in the district”, said Excise and Taxation Officer Madhur Bhatia.
“11 liquor vends would be relocated in Malout town, seven in Muktsar and two in Gidderbaha. The remaining liquor vends that are to be shifted are in rural areas”, he added.
