Kupwara: An encounter broke out between militants and security forces in north Kashmir’s Kupwara on Wednesday morning.
Preliminary reports suggest that the encounter started at Kunannad-Hyhama, Kupwara, when a group of militants opened fire at a search-and-cordon party of the security forces early in the morning.
The entire village has been sealed and reinforcements were called in to plug all the escape routes in the area.
Unconfirmed reports suggest a policeman was injured in the gunfight.
“The operation is in progress. Any further detail will be confirmed only after the operations is over,” said Srinagar-based Army spokesman.
