Patiala: On a day when ‘Yogi Raj’ officially came into force in UP, back in Punjab, Health Minister Brahm Mohindra put the cat among the Akalis by announcing an inquiry into the expenditure done by the previous government on Sangat Darshans.
He said that the previous government had loaned the money for Sangat Darshans from private banks and it remained to be seen what assets the government had mortgaged to get the money. He said that the source of the funds and its use would be vigorously looked into by the present government.
Hinting at a scam in laying out of roads in the state by the previous regime, Mohindra pointed that all the aspects related to roads would be subject to inquiry. He also pointed out the possible misappropriation of funds allocated for Patiala hospital.
Among the first major challenges in the health sector, Mohindra identified the scourge of Dengue as a most immediate threat. He said that the health department would be holding a meeting of the concerned officials soon and a solution would be worked out to eradicate the disease.
The Health ministry, he said, would lay emphasis on strengthening the health infrastructure, particularly the government hospitals in the state.
