Chandigarh, February 24, 2026:

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), in line with the zero tolerance policy adopted by the Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann led Punjab government, has apprehended  Sarpanch Gurcharan Singh of village Devinagar (Abhravan) district SAS Nagar for demanding a bribe Rs. 50000/-.

Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said the arrest has been made following a complaint lodged on the Chief Minister’s Anti Corruption Action Line portal. During the verification of this complaint, it came to light that  Sarpanch Gurcharan Singh of village Devinagar( Abhravan) of district SAS Nagar demanded bribe of Rs. 1,00,000 in lieu of releasing impounded tractor of complainant  from Police Station Bannur.

On the request of the complainant who is the resident of village Devinagar, deal was settled at Rs. 50,000/- with accused Sarpanch. The complainant had recorded the entire audio conversation.

In this regard, a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered against  the accused at VB Police Station SAS Nagar range. Further investigation into this case is underway, he added.
