Chandigarh: Keeping up its pace of big-ticket decisions, the Punjab Cabinet on Wednesday approved six major policy measures, which are expected to have far-reaching impact on the state.
The Cabinet has given its approval to the New Mining Policy aimed at ending the monopolization of the trade. The Cabinet also gave practical shape to checking the rising fees in private schools by capping the annual increase in fees at eight per cent per year.
In keeping with Capt Amarinder’s promise on the subject, the Cabinet gave its go ahead to repeal the Khalsa University, converting the same to Khalsa College.
In another step, the Cabinet has fixed the remuneration of Advisors having status of Cabinet minister or minister of state. Those in the former category will get salary of Rs 35,000 and the latter will draw Rs 30,000 per month. They will also get a telephone allowance of Rs 3500.
The government quelled all rumors regarding closure of Maharaja Ranjit Singh Technical University (MRSTU). The Vice-Chancellor of the university will be chosen from eminent educationists at an All-India level without any political connections.
The Cabinet also handed over the management of Saragarhi Memorial to Saragarhi Memorial Management Trust, Ferozepur. The trust mainly has senior and distinguished military men as its members.
The Cabinet also discussed matters related to farmers and the SYL canal.
