Chandigarh: Liquor vend owners and bacchus lovers in the city heaved a sigh of relief on Friday as the UT Administration finally found a way to divert the Supreme Court directions, which practically entailed closure of all liquor vends in the city from April 1.

As a way out, the UT Administration has reclassified city roads into Major roads and minor roads as opposed to earlier classification of National Highways and State Highways. The Administration has changed the notification regarding classification of roads issued in 2005 in this context.

Under the new classification, the Madhya Marg will now bear the status of State Highway.
