New Delhi: India has recorded an improved child sex ratio for the first time, indicating a growing preference for the girl child.
As Census revealed the National Family Health Survey, it has recorded that the preference for girl child has been increased as it was very low in the last survey.
“This is the first time we have managed to reverse the trend of declining child sex ratio defined as the number of girls aged 0 to 6 years for every 1,000 male children”, said Health Secretary CK Mishra.
Earlier, Punjab and Haryana were recorded as least in the list but now it has recorded the reversal in the child sex ratio, experiencing its first improvement.
In the prior survey, it was recorded 734 girls for 1000 boys in Punjab and 762 girls for 1000 boys in Haryana, which is increased to 860 and 836 in the respective states.
