New Delhi: A BSF head constable and and a Junior Commissioned Officer have been killed in a ceasefire violation by Pakistan on Monday in Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir, news agency ANI reported. The attack took place at around 8.30 am this morning.
Pakistan reportedly fired rockets at a forward defence location (FDL) post of the BSF along the LoC. A BSF jawan was critically injured in the firing.

“At about 0830 hours, there was heavy firing from Pakistani (army) posts at BSF posts at LoC in Krishnagati sector of Poonch district with rockets and automatic weapons”, a senior BSF officer told PTI.

Indian troops guarding the border line retaliated effectively, the officer said.

Earlier in the day, Home Minister Rajnath Singh held a meeting with top government officials on the security situation in the country. Among the issues discussed were the on-going violence in Kashmir as well as the recent ambush that led to the killing 25 CRPF jawans in Sukma, Chhattisgarh.

Army sources, speaking to The Indian Express, had said that there have been 60 instances of ceasefire violations until mid-April in the 16 Corps Zone, the area that falls south of Pir Panjal. The number of ceasefire violations increased after the surgical strikes last year in which the Indian Army targeted terror launch pads along the LoC. Only 45 out of the 226 ceasefire violations last year, had occurred before the surgical strikes.
