New Delhi: In a major customer-centric decision, the Indian Railways is now moving towards making Railway tickets available through ATMs. As per sources, the railways have already run a pilot project for the same at its TataNagar Railway Station at Jhankhand, which has been a good success.
People will no longer be required to wait in the queues of Railway Stations as the Centre for Railway Information System (CRIS) has already begun work on implementing the software for ticketing through ATMs.
Alongside, the Railway have already held discussions with the State Bank Of India to launch the project throughout the country.
The ATMs will known as Automatic ticket vending machines (ATVMs) as SBI will upgrade the ATMs so that people can get tickets like they get currency notes.
Railways will also talk to other major banks to operationalize the facility.
The new Automatic ticket vending machines (ATVMs) will have the option to insert coins and notes which further means people will not need debit/credits cards to get the tickets.
