Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) countered a suspected terrorist this afternoon in neighborhood of Lucknow’s Thakurganj.
A terror suspect allegedly linked to the Ujain train blast opened fire at security forces in Thakurganj area of Lucknow.
“The suspect inside the building is possibly from Lucknow, we suspect that he has weapons. We hope to arrest him soon, will interrogate him thereafter,” said a senior police official Daljit Chaudhary, to News Agency.
The search for the suspected terrorist began around 3:30pm after the UP ATS received a tip that some terrorists might be staying in a house in Haji Colony in Thakurganj.
Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh IG Law & order Makrand Devaskar confirmed that Bhopal-Ujjain passenger train explosion that took place, earlier in the day, was a terrorist attack. He confirmed that it was an IED blast and added that three people have been arrested from Pipariya in connection with the case. A News agency reported that more than six were injured in the explosion.
ATS cordoned off the densely populated colony.
Eventually, the UP ATS cornered the suspected terrorist and was trying to flush him out from a building in Haji Colony where he had holed up.
A search operation is also underway in the area and residents of the neighbourhood have been told to stay indoors during the operation.
