Mumbai: The 30 share BSE Sensex fell by 295.81 points or 0.93 per cent even as Gold prices moved up further at the close of trading in the respective markets on Monday. Gold prices improved on accopunty of good investors’ offtake as well as mild local buying interest amid weak global cues.

The NSE Nifty fell below the 9,900 level to 9,872 at the close of trading while silver prices rose by Rs 60 per kg due to increased offtake by industrial units and coin makers.

Standard gold (99.5 purity) moved up by Rs 110 to close at Rs 29,735 per 10 grams from last Friday’s closing level of Rs 29,625.

Pure gold (99.9 purity) also rose by a similar margin to end at Rs 29,885 per 10 grams as against Rs 29,775 previously.

Silver (.999 fineness) climbed by Rs 60 per kg to close at Rs 39,510 as compared to Rs 39,450 earlier.

Globally, Gold eased as the prospect of a fractured parliament in Germany following Chancellor Angela Merkel s less than resounding election victory over the weekend knocked the euro lower.

Spot gold was down 0.1 per cent at USD 1,295.50 an ounce at early trade.

Silver was 0.1 per cent higher at USD 16.98 an ounce.
