MUkerian (Hoshiarpur): Speaking in the heat of election battle, Navjot Singh Sidhu, the cricketer turned politician who has lately joined the Congress party, ended up calling Arvind Kejriwal a ‘handpump’ – a unique analogy relevant to the rural mindsets in Punjab hinterland – at an election rally here.
Sidhu said that Kejriwal was ‘like a handpump – four feet above the ground and 120 feet under it.” Loosely translated from the perspective of a Punjabi audience, Sidhu meant that the Delhi Chief Minister had a hidden agenda, and was not what he appears in public.
Sidhu went on to say that Kejriwal was a smart alec. “I went to him and asked what could be done to take Punjab forward. He said Sidhu ji you please campaign for the AAP and let other people fight the elections.”
He was campaigning in favor of the Congress candidate Rajnish Kumar.
