Chjandigarh: In a landmark development for the region’s higher education ecosystem, Chandigarh Group of Colleges (CGC), Jhanjeri has officially transitioned into CGC University, Mohali, marking a bold step forward in its 25-year academic journey. The announcement was made at a high-profile press conference held at JW Marriott, Chandigarh, where leaders from academia and industry came together to unveil the university’s ambitious vision.
With this transformation, CGC University, Mohali aims to position itself as India’s ‘Industry-Integrated Learning Capital’ a hub for AI- driven innovation, tech-first education, and skill-oriented training. The university promises a curriculum co-developed with corporates, adopting a 50:50 model where classroom teaching is equally shared between faculty and industry experts.
Speaking at the launch, S. Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal, Founder Chancellor, emphasized the university’s core mission of accessibility and inclusivity. ‘Quality education should not be a privilege for a select few- it must be the right of every individual’ he said, reaffirming his lifelong commitment to making education a tool for dignity and opportunity.
Carrying this vision forward, Mr. Arsh Dhaliwal, Managing Director of CGC University, highlighted the need for seamless academia-industry integration. Drawing from his exposure to the American education system, he underscored that employability must be central to education. ‘We are curating a futuristic, tech-enabled curriculum that speaks the language of innovation, industry, and employability,- he noted. He also revealed an ambitious plan to provide students with stipend-based internships worth 75,000 to 1,00,000 during their studies, encouraging financial independence and real-world experience.
Further detailing the academic model, Dr. Sushil Prashar, Executive Director, DCPD, explained that students will learn directly from CEOs, entrepreneurs, and industry leaders. ‘We are bringing the industry to campus,’ he said. ‘Our students will be learning from boardrooms, case studies, and live projects to become problem-solvers and leaders of tomorrow.’
The event saw participation from top corporate leaders including Mr. Gagan Agrawal (IBM India), Mr. Amit Choudhary (KPMG India), Mr. Anand Akhouri (EY India), Mr. Ashutosh Kumar (Cognitel), Mr. Harsh Chhabra (Microsoft, Autodesk, Meta partner), and Mr. Ahmed Khalid (Imarticus Learning), all of whom applauded the university’s vision.
CGC University’s approach is also rooted in social impact. It seeks to bridge the rural-urban skill gap through digital skilling in regional languages, promote gig-economy and startup incubation, and extend marketing and digital support to India’s MSME sector-valued at over 6.8 lakh crore. The model aligns with NEP 2020 and complements national flagship initiatives such as Skill India, Startup India, and Digital India.
With a legacy spanning more than two decades, CGC University, Mohali enters this new chapter with a mission to produce future-ready, globally competitive graduates.
