Kapurthala: With their declared intentions of investigating the trails of work done during the Akali regime, the new Congress government has uncovered a scam running into lakhs of rupees in the local Municipal Corporation. The scam relates to irregularities in consumption of fuel in JCB’s deployed by the Corporation.
On an average a JCB consumes approx. 6 to 6.5 litres of oil in one hour, but the oil consumption during the Akali years is reported to be as high as 9 to 10 liters in one hour.
In another scam committed during the past five years, the Kapurthala Improvement Trust sold government quarters valued at crores of rupees for a sum of Rs 56 lakhs. The quarters were reportedly shown as vacant government land.
This despite the fact that a tender was passed two months ago to renovate these quarters.
Though Cabinet Minister in charge of Local bodies, Navjot Sidhu, dismissed all the Chairmen and trustees of the Improvement Trust earlier, he possibly is not in a position to stop the scams that are being unearthed left, right and center in the working of the urban local bodies.
